The process of making an iron bowl is a fairly simple one, and while there’s a few steps that can get tricky, the basics are pretty simple: take a large iron bowl, heat it with a pot of water and set it on a tray, and then take the bowl out of the tray and let it sit for a few minutes to cool.
The bowl will then need to be set on a cooling rack to allow for the iron to cure for a couple of hours before you add it to the dish.
The final step is to place a piece of rawhide in the bowl, which should be roughly the size of a pencil.
It should be about 3mm wide, but it’s important to remember that a sharp object, such as a knife, will only get the bowl hot enough to start a fire.
Next, place the cooked meat, vegetables, and other ingredients in the tray, while you pour the pot of hot water on top.
After about 30 seconds, the bowl should look like this:There’s a lot of heat to be gained here, so be sure to let the bowl cool down to a manageable temperature before adding the dish to the pot.
When it’s ready, it should look something like this, and if you’ve done it right, the final result will look like the image above:It’s worth noting that, in a modern kitchen, the water in a bowl is actually heated by a fire, so you’ll need to bring it into the room in a separate pot so that it’s heated in the same way.
Once you’ve added the dish, you can add more liquid, or even pour it into your dish and add it in, or just let it simmer for a bit longer.
It’s up to you what you want to put into your bowl, but you’ll have to do some experimentation with different recipes to find the one that suits you best.
